Olivia explores the effect that the external world - and the
expectations it implies - has on the internal worlds of women and how
they view themselves. Dealing with topics such as growing up
catholic, deep-rooted fears of losing purity, and hypersexualization,
Nikolidakis confronts the everyday anxieties that have become
prerequisites of womanhood.
Working chiefly with bold colors and immersively large canvases,
her work demands the viewers attention. Through placing
grossly exaggerated characters in untethered and ambiguous
environments, she asserts that her paintings are severely detached
from any tangible world, and instead are visual snippets of the psyches
of women.
Along with her strides in fine arts, Olivia also works as a graphic designer
for the gender equity advocacy organization,
the ruth project.
